How LabView works

A walkthrough of LabView: the desktop app a lab uses, the page a patient sees on their phone, and the web version. Each part has a video with captions and call-outs, a list of what it does, and every step of the flow with screenshots. Click any screenshot to enlarge it.

For the lab · Windows, macOS and Linux

Desktop app

Set up the lab, make and sign reports, take payments and see how the lab is doing, with or without internet.

Walkthrough video · 13:47 · 46 steps in 15 parts

What it does

  • Sign in with a 6-digit code to a phone or email. No passwords.
  • Set up the lab in a minute: name, short code for lab numbers, and how many people check a report.
  • Report Settings: letterhead, logo, signing doctors with their signature images.
  • Templates with units, formulas, reference ranges by sex and age, critical values and a private price.
  • Register a patient, tick several tests, and add several samples with barcodes or tube numbers.
  • Enter results with flags and calculated values; one tab for each test in the report.
  • Sign, release a partial report, amend with a reason, or revoke. Every change is recorded.
  • QR code on every signed report; PDF made on the computer, so it works offline.
  • Payments in parts, by cash, UPI, card or bank, compared with the price kept when the tests were chosen. Never printed.
  • Send by WhatsApp or email, print a counter slip, silent printing and letterhead offsets.
  • Search, sort, filter, folders, a Patients tab, and a menu that folds to icons.
  • A dashboard: money, reports, turnaround, stages, top tests, samples and balances.
  • Team roles, computers, an offline PIN and encrypted backups.
  • Works with no internet; changes queue and upload by themselves.

Part 1Sign in and set up your lab

No passwords: a 6-digit code to your phone or email. You do this once.

1Sign in with a codeEnter your email address or mobile number and press Send code. Mobile numbers get the code on WhatsApp, email addresses by email.
2Enter the 6-digit codeType the 6 digits you received. A code works for 10 minutes and once only.
3Set up your labName the lab and give it a short code (it starts your lab numbers, such as SPL-2026-000001). Choose how reports are checked: by one person, by a technician and then a pathologist, or with the three steps NABL labs need.

Part 2Report Settings

Everything that prints on your reports: letterhead, logo, signing doctors.

4Your letterhead detailsLab name, tagline, address, phones and email print at the top of every report. A live preview on the right shows the header.
5Logo and colourUpload your logo and choose where the lab name appears. The paper is always white with black text; your colour is used only for the lab name and the line under the header.
6Add the signing doctorName, qualification, designation, registration number and a signature image. These print under the results of every report this doctor signs.

Part 3Templates and prices

A template is a test with its reference ranges. Search, change, price and preview them.

7Find a templateType in the search box; "hemogram" finds the Complete Blood Count. Use Duplicate to copy a template for another machine or age group, and Archive to hide one.
8Set a priceThe Price is private to your lab. It is never printed on a report or shown to a patient. Reports keep the price from when the test was chosen.
9Change a testClick a row to see its settings in the same place: unit, decimals, formula, ranges by sex and age, and critical values. Type a value in Result to try the red flags. Drag the grips to reorder.
10Preview the printed pagePreview is made on your computer by the same engine that makes real reports, so it works with no internet.

Part 4Register a patient and start a report

Patient, tests, samples and the amount received, in one form.

11Patient and testsType the name, sex and age (or switch to date of birth). The mobile number is where the report link is sent. Tick the tests; prices show for people who handle the counter. Slow tests such as cultures become their own report.
12SamplesA sample is added for each kind the tests need, collected now. Press Add sample for more tubes. Each has its own collected time and an optional barcode or tube number. Choose "Other…" to type a new kind; it is remembered.
13Amount received (optional)If the patient pays now, type the amount and how they paid. You can also do this later from the Payment tab. It is private to the lab and never appears on the report.

Part 5Enter the results

Type, press Enter, and LabView flags and calculates for you.

14The report pagePatient and visit details are summarised in one line; Show opens them. Four tabs: Report, PDF, Payment and History. When a report has several tests, each has its own tab.
15Type the resultsClick the first Result box, type, and press Enter to move down. Values outside the reference range turn red with H or L. Calculated rows such as MCV fill in by themselves.
16Tests sent to a reference labChoose "Sent to a reference lab" for a test and type the lab name and its accreditation number. They print beside that test. A report with an empty lab name cannot be signed.
17Samples and the Reported timeOpen the details to edit samples and times. "Reported" is the time printed as the report date: type it if you need a particular time (it works offline), or leave it empty and the time of signing is used.
18Check the PDFThe PDF tab shows exactly what will print. It is made on your computer, so it works without internet.

Part 6Sign the report

Signing freezes the results and gives the report its QR code.

19SignChoose who is signing. Values outside the range are listed, and critical values must be reviewed first. Signing freezes the results as version 1.
20Signed, with its QR readyA signed report cannot be edited; changes need an amendment. The QR code is issued by the server as soon as the report uploads. A report signed offline gets its QR later.
21The signed PDFThe signed PDF carries the signing doctor, their signature and the QR code.
22HistoryEvery change is recorded: who did it and when, and each signed version. The history cannot be edited.

Part 7Payments

Price, discount and amount received. Private to the lab: never on a report.

23The Payment tabShows the price each test had when it was chosen, any discount, what has been received and the balance. Prices and payments are private to the lab.
24Record a paymentAdd a payment now or any time later; a patient can pay in parts. "Received full balance" fills in what is left. A wrong entry is removed and entered again, and the change is kept in the audit trail.

Part 8Give the report to the patient

Send a link, print a slip, or hand over the PDF.

25Send the reportSend automatically by WhatsApp or email, open WhatsApp yourself, write an email, or copy the message with the link. Sensitive reports are never sent automatically.
26Print a counter slipA small slip with the lab number and a QR the patient can scan. The desktop app prints silently to the printer you choose.

Part 9Correct a signed report

Amend with a reason; the new version keeps the same QR code.

27Amend with a reasonA signed report can only be changed by amending it. Say why: the reason is recorded with the new version.
28Version 2, same QRCorrect the value and sign again. Version 2 uses the same QR code, and History shows both versions and the reason.

Part 10Reports for anything else

A blank report with your own title, table and details.

29Other (generic)"Other (generic)" gives a blank report with your own title, details and table, for anything that has no template.
30Build the tableAdd rows, columns and notes in the grid, exactly as in the template builder.

Part 11Find your reports

Search, sort, filter and keep reports in folders.

31The reports listClick a report to open it. A small cloud means it has not reached the server yet. The list shows 50 reports at a time; change how many, or move through the pages, with the buttons underneath.
32Sort and filterSort by when a report was updated, collected or received. Filter by status, upload state, QR code or payment, or set From and To dates. "Clear filters" puts everything back.
33FoldersFolders keep reports together, such as a health camp. Select several reports to move them. Reports in no folder are under "Untitled".

Part 12Patients

Everyone you have made a report for, with their reports one click away.

34PatientsSearch by name, mobile number or patient ID; sort by name or date added; filter by sex. The first icon starts a new report with that person filled in, the second lists their reports, the pencil corrects their details.
35Fold the menu awayThe arrow at the top of the menu folds it to icons so tables and forms get more room. It stays the way you left it.

Part 13The dashboard

Money, reports and turnaround for any period, computed on this computer.

36The lab at a glanceMoney received, reports made and signed with the change against the previous period, how long reports take from collection to signing, work waiting, and money still to collect. Money is shown only to people allowed to see it.
37Read any dayMove the pointer over a chart to read the exact numbers for a day, or use the arrow keys. Every chart can also be shown as a table.
38Tests, samples and balancesHow patients paid, the most ordered tests, samples collected, and the biggest balances still to collect.
39Table viewEvery chart has a Table view with the same numbers.
40Choose the periodPick today, the last 7, 30 or 90 days, this month, or a custom range. Everything on the page follows it.

Part 14Team, computers and backups

Who can do what, which computers are signed in, and encrypted backups.

41Invite your teamInvite staff by email or mobile number and choose what each person can do. Each role sees only what it needs: for example only counter staff see prices and payments, and only owners and admins see the money on the dashboard.
42Offline PIN and computersRemove a lost computer: it is signed out and its saved data cleared. Set an Offline PIN so LabView opens with no internet; the lock button in the menu locks it any time.
43Printers and backups (desktop only)The desktop app lets you choose printers, set a letterhead offset, print a test page and make encrypted backups. A wrong passphrase is refused, and the file shows no patient names.

Part 15Working without internet

Everything keeps working. Changes wait in a queue and upload by themselves.

44OfflineThe lower left of the menu says "Offline" and how many changes are waiting. Nothing else changes: you keep working.
45Keep workingRegister patients, enter results, sign and print with no internet. Lab numbers never clash because each computer has its own block of numbers.
46Back onlineWhen the internet returns, the queue uploads by itself and other computers pick the changes up.

For the patient · any phone, no app, no account

The patient’s phone

Scan the QR on the report, get a code on your own phone, and see your results.

Walkthrough video · 0:37 · 3 steps in 3 parts

What it does

  • No app and no account: scan the QR on the report or open the link.
  • Before the code, the page shows only who issued the report and that it is genuine.
  • A 6-digit code goes to the number the lab has on file; anyone else holding the paper cannot see the report.
  • The patient sees the results and downloads the PDF, with a fingerprint to prove it is unchanged.
  • A 7-day link can be made for the patient’s doctor.
  • Withdrawn reports say so clearly. Prices and payments are never shown.

Part 1Scan the QR

The page shows only that the report is genuine. No name, no results.

Every feature

What LabView does, grouped by the job you are doing.

Getting started

  • Sign in with a 6-digit code to a phone or email: no passwords
  • Shared-computer mode signs you out after 20 quiet minutes
  • Set-up wizard: lab name, short code, how many people check a report (one, two steps, or three for NABL)
  • Ten starter templates ready to use
  • Offline PIN and a Lock button, so the app opens with no internet

Report Settings

  • Lab name, tagline, address, phones, email, website and registration numbers
  • Logo, with the lab name above, below, left, right or hidden; your colour on the header line
  • Letterhead mode with margins for pre-printed paper
  • Signatories with qualification, designation, registration number and signature image
  • Signatures on every page or the last page; a disclaimer line; live preview

Templates

  • Search by name, other names or department; duplicate; archive
  • Everything on one page: settings above, grid below, click a row for its settings
  • Units, decimals, formulas for calculated rows (such as MCV), narrative rows, section headings and notes
  • Reference ranges by sex and age, bands, qualitative results, one-sided ranges and critical values
  • Extra fields, interpretation text, sample type and instrument
  • Sensitive tests never appear in a patient’s list or in messages; slow tests become their own report
  • A private price on each template
  • Every save is a new version; reports keep the version they used. Undo, redo, drag to reorder, printed preview

Registering and samples

  • Find a returning patient by mobile number or name and fill them in
  • Age or date of birth, title and sex checks, referred by, your own patient ID
  • Several tests at once; “Other (generic)” makes a blank report with your own title and table
  • Several samples per visit (Blood, Urine, Semen, or your own types, remembered), each with a collected time and an optional barcode
  • Amount received can be recorded straight away
  • Reports can be filed in folders

Entering results

  • One scrollable tab per test, with results entered and flagged counts
  • Enter moves down; High, Low and critical values in red; calculated rows fill themselves
  • Mark a test as sent to a reference lab; its name and accreditation print beside it
  • Type the Reported time yourself, offline if needed; otherwise the time of signing is used
  • Autosave, a list of what blocks signing, and a live PDF preview that works offline

Signing and corrections

  • Checking steps follow your lab’s level: sign alone, technician then pathologist, or three steps for NABL
  • Critical values must be reviewed before signing
  • Release a partial report with “Awaited” results, then sign the rest under the same QR
  • Amend a signed report with a reason; the new version keeps the same QR and the old one is kept
  • Revoke a report; its QR then says so
  • A tamper-proof history of every change, by person and computer

Delivering reports

  • QR code on every signed report, issued by the server
  • Patients scan it, get a code on their own phone, then see the results and download the PDF with a fingerprint
  • A 7-day link for the patient’s doctor; withdrawn reports say so clearly
  • Send by WhatsApp or email, or copy the message with the link; sensitive reports are never sent automatically
  • Counter slips; silent printing and letterhead offsets in the desktop app

Payments (private to the lab)

  • The price of each test is frozen on the report when the tests are chosen
  • Payment tab: discount, change the total, add payments in parts by cash, UPI, card or bank
  • Balance, paid and paid-extra states; a wrong entry is removed and re-entered, and kept in the audit trail
  • Payment column and filter in the Reports list
  • Never printed on a report or shown on any patient page; only counter roles see it

Finding things

  • Search by patient, mobile number, lab number or test: fast even with 50,000 reports
  • Sort by updated, collected or received; date ranges; status, upload, QR and payment filters
  • 50 per page (or more), folders, and an “Untitled” group
  • A Patients tab: search, sort, filter by sex, start a new report, see their reports, correct details
  • A menu that folds to icons

Dashboard

  • Pick a period; everything follows it and is compared with the period before
  • Money received, reports made and signed, time from collection to signing, work waiting
  • Reports by stage, most ordered tests, samples collected, how patients paid, biggest balances
  • Hover or use arrow keys for exact numbers; every chart has a table view
  • Works offline from the data on the computer

Team and security

  • Invite by email or mobile number; eight roles from owner to front desk
  • Each role sees and does only what it needs, on the screen and on the server
  • Computers list; remove a lost computer to sign it out and clear its data
  • Lab data is separated between labs at the database level
  • Encrypted backup files you can restore (desktop app)

Offline and sync

  • Every computer keeps the lab’s data and works with no internet
  • Changes queue and upload by themselves; other computers pick them up
  • Lab numbers come in blocks per computer, so they never clash
  • A report signed offline gets its QR after it reaches the server
  • Tested with 50,000 templates, patients and reports on one computer

Who can do what

Each person sees and does only what their role allows. This is checked on the screen and again on the server.
